Welcome to the Office of the Dean of University Programs.  The mission of University Programs is to design, support, offer and enhance educational programs university-wide, especially in faculty and professional development, General Education, Area Studies, Experiential Learning, and International Education through high quality instruction, scholarship and service.

University Programs houses the following departments:

The Teaching & Learning Center, housed in University Programs, takes an active role in faculty development and offers on-going professional development opportunities including new faculty orientation, conferences, and workshops.

In support of Service Learning at the University, University Programs assures campus representation for the American Democracy Project and Campus Compact, two organizations dedicated to infusing service learning and civic engagement into the curriculum.

University Programs also includes General Education and a variety of university-wide courses.  These courses include the following:   African/African American Studies (AFA), Appalachian Studies (APP), Career Counseling and Interpersonal Effectiveness (GCS), Student Development (GSD), Orientation for Undeclared students (GSO), and Women’s Studies (WMS).

New to University Programs in 2007 are the Quality Enhancement Programs.  These initiatives have been developed to support the theme approved by SACS in the 2007 reaffirmation process:  EKU will develop informed, critical and creative thinkers who communicate effectively.
